Either side of the black and white.Either side of S21 and Killing Fields we did this. We walked across the road from S21 to go to Buddhi Tree Restaurant for some lunch, as I did 4 years ago with the rest of the guys doing Tabitha.  Boom it was closed, and not just closed but being bulldozedRead More

Switching back to black and white and slightly faded. It really is how you feel, so it is how I will show it. I don’t know if you’ll remember my initial Cambodian blog when I 1st came here – I’ll assume not so shall start from the beginning. You arrive in high spirits, maybe having had aRead More

1st up – yep it’s John’s turn. I seriously cannot remember my last time at Jon and Jan’s – I really can’t. But on walking in I do remember loads of memories of me and Nikki playing there, the hiding places behind the bed, hiding behind the sofa and so on. But off we went this weekRead More

Pop Up means many things – in this case it is indeed book related, and more importantly Micro Brewery related – woo hoo

Walking around Margate, and taking trips to the countryside this trip it seems that the pub industry is decimated. So many boarded up and closed down establishments. Places you would never think would or could go under, but Mum says no one has the money to spend to go out now and supermarkets are pumpingRead More

The beautiful ladies of Tabitha, oh yeah and Mario…

Day No 2 – first stop Off to Tabitha to see the ladies – the wonderful ladies that lived through the atrocities and came out smiling. A place you have to visit if you are in Phnom Penh. Buy some gifts – as every cent goes in to the charity and therefore to the people. Beautiful silks, handRead More

Amazing what difference a day makes – that is if you are reading this after the S21 blog. Amazing as today is all about excitement, expectation, the unknown, meeting new people, chatting, socialising, exploring all those lovely things you do when you hit a new country or experience for the first time – then BOOM dayRead More

S21, Phnom Penh, Cambodia – with my mate Mario

I never thought I would go back after my first trip 4 years ago now.  But I did. I went with my mate Mario, and to be honest in a strange way I am so glad I did. It had the same, if not more impact this time – to explain that I mean because trip numberRead More

Did you know that nearly all babies, whatever race are born Blue…?

Blood is never blue. Blood is always red.But sometimes it is a different shade of red depending on the oxygen levels present, but always red. Often it is shown in diagrams as being blue to symbolize the un-oxygenated blood which is really a dark red almost purple in colour. Veins take on the appearance of being blue becauseRead More

Well before we get to “The Great Escape” – tunnelling from where we live, digging a tunnel in a u-turn to get back in. Ha Ha! I’ll cover a few other little snippets of fun. For those that know, you know what I am talking about – for those that don’t sorry – I’ll explain privatelyRead More

She calls our name and we come running, We have lost the voice we listened to, And there's a stillness now the rains stopped falling, And there's a sadness like we never knew, But we still see the shining of things. We love and miss you desperately Ni.

About Brian

I have worked in Telecommunications pretty much all my life, with good fortune to have worked literally across the world with amazing colleagues and clients from Sao Paulo, to Chicago, to LA, to UK, Europe and most recently to South East Asia and Australia.

I love to cook and to write and again for many years now have been writing a food blog, constantly morphing. I have also written a cook book for charitable reasons. I now also write a column for EXMag.sg a men's magazine with a focus on food - recipes and reviews. I do this under the tag-name of Semi-Naked Chef.

I am very focused at charitable work and CSR - having visited Cambodia 6 years running now to build houses on stilts for the less fortunate people there.

I have 3 kids - 2 half-Japanese and 1 half-Filipino.
