Koh Lipe, Thailand, Day #6 Kennett’s Tour
Our last full day in Koh Lipe as tomorrow we are; long-tail, speed-boat, taxi, ferry, taxi to The Westin in Langkawi. And then the next day we depart back for Singapore. This has been such a wonderful holiday, truly. So for you here is our last special day in our new favourite places on the planet, Koh Lipe. You have to come here if you can. In fact Mary and I are discussing me having my 50th birthday party here next year, so there is an excuse for you all to get over with us? Here is Koh Lipe, Thailand, Day #6 Kennett’s Tour. A wonderfully sad day!!!

So let’s go explore this island we have fallen in love with – it is indeed tuk tuk taxi time, and two of them as apparently we’d be too heavy to get up some of the hills if all in one.

Guess who shared my tuk tuk – selfie selfie moment with #2.

On a VERY steep walk down a windy road to Sunset Beach I spotted this. Not a cat on a hot tin roof, but fish a drying in the sun. Mary had a spas fit and tried to steal it all, I had to march her away!

Here is Sunset Beach. With a distinct lack of beach. High tide everywhere we went, and with the stormy season too it really is high tide. Still stunning scenery all around!

A slightly humbling moment, to say the least, and a major reason to do what we did today. Get in to the middle of the island, away from where the resorts are on the beach and you will see the real Koh Lipe. This is an average local home. So be humble, be polite, be appreciative when being served or fed, whilst supping your cocktail, laying on your sun bed. You are LUCKY to have what you have, as others clearly do not!!!

Sunset Beach the other way. To be absolutely blatantly honest, there really is not a lot to do here. Perhaps it picks up in high season?

A wee look across the water at the neighbouring island, which is like 10x the size of Koh Lipe. This is Koh Adang. Stunning greenery, and a secluded beach or two and some clearly affluent visitors with the moored yacht to the right.

Off now to Mountain Resort, and on the way we zip past this rather cool Reggae Bar, called Home Bar. Maybe next time we’re over, if Jude can get a baby-sitter again!

Seriously check this out! This is a view from Mountain Resort. This is called The Point. Check out that sea colour, no wonder it is called Maldives of Thailand. It is simply stunning. Mary asks; “Can we go down there?”

Now we’re down low and again here is that yacht and beautiful resort place across the way on Koh Adang. I want to go there one day!

This is the view around Mountain Resort. I could sit and stare at this all day long, all day long. It is simply stunning!

A rather beautiful snap of the good lady enjoying herself up Mountain Resort. A cracker babes! Keeper. I see your FB profile photo a changing ha ha!

#2 gets in on the act now, actually down at The Point. Yes Mary gets her wish. This place is paradise. Topaz sea, powder sand. I picked up a wee hermit crab to show to Jude – so cute. Man it is hot, hot, hot here though today! WOW!

And then…. Slight change in the weather dynamic!

It truly went bananas for about an hour. Mary is now panicking re the speedboat ride home tomorrow. Yeah that would be CHOPPY if the weather turns like this!

Blink your eyes and it all changes!

So a weather-locked lunch at our favourite Akira Lipe Resort. Not a bad outcome from a stormy midday. I am only going to show off a couple though. Mary up first with a new dish of mixed seafood with yellow curry powder – she loved it. That is all that needs to be shared!

I just have no idea if Jude is enjoying this or not?

Me next with this absolute bum burning beef dish. Wow this was on the Richter scale of intense heat. But so so delicious this was. So good! This was Khao Kra Pad Nue and Kai Dao. Or stir fried minced beef, with basil, fresh garlic, chili and a fried egg atop. BOOM!!!

And the last one for lunch today is my desert, of Kauy Baud Chee, or banana in coconut milk with sesame. Holy shit amazing. Almost sour, but also sweet and savoury – a cracking desert. Loved it!

A quick early arvo nap for the parents, and then let’s hit the pool again. It is our last opportunity sadly! Family fun! Minus Ollie – who has decided to stay in a no wifi room (killed by last night’s storm) on his own. Yep, weird, I know!

Well we had fun!

Here’s something interesting. Apparently beyond the green awning thing is gonna be Akira Lipe Resort’s expansion opening in October. It looks like almost doubling in size, with new seating, chilling, pool areas and accommodation – very nice! Hopefully we’ll see that next year? You never know!

Off for the ‘last supper’ at Steakhouse again. Really nice here, right on the beach front, so breezy and airy. Great food too. Western, Asian, Thai. All is good! Jude gets in there first with his pork satays, cute presentation!

I go Mexican minced beef tacos. I know, I know. Something different was in the brain. Pretty damned good too. Really liked these!

You have to try these if you come. The wild mushrooms. Wow. So so good. Not sure how cooked, but for sure; garlic, parsley, butter and some other stuff too. Bloody brilliant!

Mary cracks in to slow roast lamb shank, with veggies and mashed potato. Lamb butter moment. This was simple and simply superb. Delicious fall off the bone meat. So good!

Ollie, as usual, goes primo with the Angus Wagyu tenderloin. Cooked to perfection. Pink and charred. Again just bloody good! Really nice steak. Great taste and seasoned well. Well done Steakhouse.

Amy goes big guns with lamb rack. This was a stunner. Even Jude got in the act with this one, asking his sis for more and more, and ending up chewing on the bones as you will see!

Go for it Baby Jude. Yummo!!!
So that was it folks. The last proper day at our new friends Akira Lipe Resort. It’s a MUST STAY LOCATION if you happen to be over this way. It is up there in family Kennett’s ‘best of ever’ locations. Our Koh Lipe, Thailand, Day #6 Kennett’s Tour was a seriously wonderful day. One yours truly, and I am certain the rest fi the gang will never forget, and for that Akira Lipe Resort and your wonderful staff, we thank you. You truly did make us – ENJOY!!!
